The composition and design of the hose clamp

We’ve introduced the types of hose clamps, having different features suitable for different applications.

The design of the hose clamp band

The perforated hose clamp and non-perforated hose clamp are very common. The inner side of the non-perforated hose clamp band is smooth and has no hose on the band. The non-perforated hose clamps are suitable for clamping hoses made of flexible materials, for example, the rubber, providing a leakproof seal. The non-perforated hose clamps will not cut the hose or mar its surface. Even after a perfect installation, the connection may be subject to large shaking and pulling force between the rigid clamp and the hose due to mechanical vibrations or other external influences. Then, leaks may occur when the hose is cut by the hose clamp band.

Embossed worm gear hose clamps: for those flexible pipes that can withstand some degree of the squeeze, the non-perforated hose clamp is also applicable as it has some grooves on its inner surface. These grooves help to clamp much tighter.

Hose clamp the floating bridge: these are generally heavy duty hose clamps with a small adjusting range. The connection between the band and the floating bridge affects the overall robustness of the hose clamps. A mechanical connection is unlikely to get contact corrosion whereas a the quality of a welded connection is affected by the welding technologh and the number of weld beams.

In order to tighten or release the clamp, you can adjust the screw. The band has a wide adjusting range, making the clamp more flexible and applicable in different uses. Also, there are many kinds of screw caps. Some have a simple slotted head, some have a Phillips head and some have a hexagonal head. Both pneumatic and hand tools can drive the screws. Some screws have handles and are easy to be installed and removed by hand without any tools, hence suitable for family uses.

The design of the screw

The screw hose clamps are usually the heavy-duty hose clamps that withstand great pressure. The screw is connected with a floating bridge which can be opened at one end. Close the floating bridge and turn the screw to adjust the diameter. The adjusting range is small, limited by the floating bridge. The floating bridge ensures guided tightening of the clamp, preventing hose puckering and subsequent seepage.

As for shear-resistant hose clamps, there are two options: high-strength bolt friction type connections and high-strength bolt compression type connections. The essential difference between the two is that the limit states are different. Although they are the same type screw, there are significant differences in the calculation methods, requirements and applications.

In addition to the worm gear, the clamp also has a spring mechanism which ensures adjustable clamping force and constant torque.

The high duty friction clamp has a limit state in which the shear force originating from the turning screw cause as large friction as possible between the contact surfaces. But the shear force is designed to not surpass the friction force. The plates are not deformed by relative slippage.

For the high duty bearing clamp, the shear force is allowed to exceed the friction.

Other detailed designs for stainless steel hose clamps

Anti-vibration: the stainless steel hose clamp is not designed to be a symmetrical circular ring. Actually, there’s an adjustable part at one end, which works as a cushion to reduce the strength of the vibration. Besides, the adjustable part also helps reduce the noise when tightening a hose clamp with grooves.

Rolled edges: the sharp edges of the band are rolled to form a smooth arc to avoid cutting the hose or cutting your fingers.

Incused markings on the hose clamp: Markings include the materials made into the clamp and the information of the manufacturers. With these markings, users will easily differentiate clamps when taking the clamps. Also, it's convenient for later maintenance and quality tracking with these markings.

In addition to the commonly used hose clamps mentioned above, we also provide the reusable spring hose clamp, rubber-made fixing clamps, wire hose clamps for low tightening forces, v-band hose clamps, u bolt exhaust clamp, quick-release latch clamps and so on. And we continue to research and upgrade our products in order to make improvements in every detail, hence we will have a variety of options for even a small screw.
